The University Management led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi on Monday, April 16, 2018 met the newly elected leaders of University of Nairobi Students Association, UNSA.

Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Mbithi thanked the students for conducting themselves responsibly during the electioneering period and eventually emerging victorious in the student elections. He congratulated the winners and thanked everyone who participated in the elections though they did not emerge victorious.

“This is a new dispensation. I call upon you all to a new leadership period. A leadership to serve the great University of Nairobi. This is a great university, the best in the country and in the region, a world class university. We attract the best students and the best professors. I look forward to working with you as we serve the great students of this great university”, he said.

Prof. Mbithi as well pleaded with the student leaders to work closely with students to ensure that the activities of the university are not affected. That teaching, learning and research continues despite the challenges the university face.

Formerly, the student’s body was represented by SONU (Students Organization of Nairobi University), the name has since changed to UNSA and this is the first elections after the constitution was changed. The students’ fraternity will be represented by Mr. Antony Manyara who won the elections.

Anthony Manyara, the new UNSA Chair, took the opportunity to thank the people who voted him into office. He as well promised to create a close working relationship between the students and the university administration. He noted that together with the incoming leadership, they’ll work together to solve the challenges that the students encounter.

Going forward the new leaders will work on a memorandum of understanding, MoU, that they will present to the University management led by the Vice-Chancellor for immediate action. Together with the student leadership, the University management will work on dignity and image of the university that goes with the leadership of a great University like the University of Nairobi.
