The University of Nairobi set up a three day training for academic staff on PHD supervision and training.
Administration procedures, rules and regulations, supervision of examinations and preparedness of PHD students were the notable areas that were discussed. There is a need for uniformity when it comes to the services offered in the different departments of the institution.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs ,Prof. Henry Mutoro said that most participants have been trained abroad, he therefore urged them to borrow the standards and implement here for the graduates to be international competitors in the marketplace.
Prof. Lydia Njenga, director, Board of Post Graduate Studies said that the University management is ready and willing to look into the recommendations and suggestions that emerged from the training. She urged the participants to work closely with the graduate students to have an increase in the publications produced by the university.
