The University and Mabati Rolling Mills sign MoU

The University of Nairobi (UoN) and Mabati Rolling Mills (MRM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Vice Chancellor’s boardroom.

 

Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi, the Principal College of Architecture and Engineering Prof. Peter Ngau, said that the University is committed to increase its partnership with industry. This is one of the major mandates that it plays towards Kenya Vision 2030 which is, catalyzing the country’s industrialization through partnerships. “Mabati Rolling Mills are the best in the country in terms of roofing solutions and the students will benefit from this partnership and exchange,” Prof. Ngau said.

 

On his part, Mr. Harry Njagi, Head of marketing, MRM, said that as a company they have adopted world class standards in terms of building solutions. “Mabati Rolling Mills would like to work on getting affordable materials and building solutions for an ordinary African,” Mr. Njagi said.

 

 “We are ready and willing to share the technology currently employed, roofing and allied technologies, knowledge in material and application and from this partnership we would like to come up with new technology, “He affirmed.

 

Mr. Njagi added that this would not be the first partnership engagement with the University. He said MRM has held annual career advancement forums where they have identified University students for their graduate trainee programs and they have an assurance of getting students who are market ready.

 

The collaboration focuses on career talks at the University, industrial visits and attachments, technology transfer from the industry to the University, joint research and publications and development of training curricula.

 

The signing of the MoU was witnessed by the Dean, School of Engineering, Prof. Jackson Mbuthia, Director, Centre for International Programmes and Links, Prof. William Ogara, University’s Legal Officer, Mr. Collins Omondi and Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. John Orindi.
