The University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University Education for Sustainable Development in Africa (ESDA) members met at the University of Nairobi in a graduate program planning meeting.
Speaking during the opening, Chair of ESDA Consortium and the UoN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi pointed out ESDA’s vision of producing experts and professionals is critical in driving the African sustainable development agenda, as enshrined in the SDGs and AU’s Agenda 2063. He further lauded each member’s contributions to taking the ESDA progam forward, and for the Secretariats efforts in keeping the ESDA family united.
Preparations for Africa Development Bank’s (AfDB) appraisal mission in support of the ESDA Internship, Joint implementation of the Sustainability Workshop Series in March and April 2017, Organization of joint Next Generation Researchers (NGR) research seminars and workshops, working together in implementing the African Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative (AYES) recommendations, with the development of the online platform by January 2017 and Consultations on approaching AfDB to support the development of Africa Agribusiness Incubation Center are among the agreed upon action points that UoN and Kenyatta University ESDA will work on.
Prof. Mbithi officially closed the meeting with words of encouragement and support by seeking each member’s contributions to a more successful 2017 for the ESDA programs, ESDA NGR and the AYES initiative.
Also participating in the meeting that was held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 were the ESDA-SUD progam Coordinators, the Next Generation Researchers (NGR) Coordinators, and the Africa Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative (AYES) lead members from the two Universities as well as the ESDA Secretariat represented by the Program Coordinator Dr. Emmanuel Mutisya of the United Nations University Tokyo.
